Family Court Judge Censured For Delaying Rulings In Cases

Jan 25, 2013 -- 3:03pm

A Family Court Judge in New Castle County has been censured for misconduct.

Judge Arlene Minus Coppadge, a Family Court Judge since 2003, was publicly censured by the Court on the Judiciary on Wednesday. However, she won’t be removed from the bench.

The case began when Chief Family Court Judge Chandlee Johnson Kuhn sent a notice to the Court on the Judiciary that Coppadge failed to properly report cases that she was handling within 90 days. The court found that Coppadge showed a pattern of delaying rulings on cases for months.

Coppadge has never been disciplined for misconduct before. However, this is the second time a Family Court judge has reprimanded by a disciplinary panel.
