1 Assaulted During Home Invasion In Smyrna

Jan 26, 2013 -- 9:40pm

A man was assaulted, and Delaware State Police are looking for the two men who broke into his home late Friday night.

Troopers say around 11:40 Friday night, a 38-year-old man was in his home on Hedgerow Hollow Road in Smyrna when he heard a knock on the door. When he answered the door, a man falsely told him that his car had slid into the resident's car, damaging it. When the resident went to inspect the damage, the men pulled out handguns and demanded money. The man turned over money and a prescription for medication, but the intruders forced him back into his home and demanded more money. A fight broke out, and the resident was hit in the head with the guns. The intruders then fled. The resident was treated at an area hospital for his injuries. Police say he was targeted.

Troopers say the intruders were both black men. One was described as being 6-foot-5 and 300 to 330 pounds, and was wearing a dark jacket. The other is 5-foot-10 with a stocky build, and was last seen wearing all black clothing. Both had hoods pulled over their heads. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police Troop 3 at (302) 741-2811, or Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
