High Winds Across Delmarva Cause Power Outages

UPDATED AT 6:50 A.M.:  Many people are waking up without electricity after a night of high winds and heavy rainfall.

Delmarva Power now says the utility currently has more than 1,200 Sussex County customers and 366 in Kent County without service. About 130 of its customers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are also in the dark.

Delaware Electric Cooperative also reports about 539 outages widely scattered throughout Sussex and Kent Counties.

UPDATED STORY @ 4:20 A.M.:  The Delaware Electric Cooperative says it has restored power to about 50-percent of homes that were in the dark. 1,700 customers still without power.

ORIGINAL STORY @ 4 A.M.:  A lot of people COULD be waking up in the dark this morning as high winds have caused power outages across Delmarva.

As of 4 a.m., the Delaware Electric Cooperative was reporting 1,804 outages in Lewes, Georgetown, Laurel, Seaford and Millsboro, just to name a few.

Delmarva Power also has thousands of customers without power. As of 4 a.m., 11,000 people were without power in Harrington, Milford, Rehoboth, Seaford, Laurel, Millsboro, Bridgeville, Milton, Ocean View and Selbyville.

Crews are working to restore power quickly; a high wind warning for Delmarva expires at 6 a.m.
