OC Will NOT Hire A New Chief Immediately

Dec 13, 2012 -- 9:40am

WGMD News has learned that instead of hiring a new police chief right away to take over for Chief Bernadette DiPino who announced her retirement in October, three Ocean City police captains will take turns being in charge temporarily.

Chief DiPino starts her new job as the new chief of police in Sarasota, Florida on January 1.

When she leaves, Captains Kevin Kirstein, Greg Guiton and Mike Colbert will each work in 45-day shifts as interim chief.

Meantime, City Manager David Recor says he’s updating the Chief’s job description so that a national search can be conducted for a new chief. Recor says the resort hopes to have a new chief hired for the start of the 2013 summer season.
