Sussex County Republican Committee Chair Jerry Wood was remembered for his contributions to Republican Party politics in a memorial service this evening.
Witnesses tell WGMD that an overflow crowd filled the social hall inside the CHEER Center in Georgetown for the service. Wood was presented with tributes from Republican members of the Delaware State Senate and House of Representatives. State Republican Party Chair John Sigler, Sussex County GOP Vice-Chair John Reilly, and former Sussex County Council candidate Don Ayotte spoke at the service. Former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell was also in attendance.
Wood died on Friday at his home in Frankford at the age of 73. He was elected chair of the county Republican Committee in March after Glen Urquhart stepped down to run for the State Senate. Wood also was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Tampa in August. He's survived by his brothers Delbert and Richard, his son Kent, and four grandchildren. He'll be buried next to his wife in the Garden of Remembrance Cemetery in Clarksville, Maryland.
