Gas prices began 2013 at a record high.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the national average for regular unleaded on New Year’s Day was $3.29 a gallon, the highest price ever for the start of a new year. That price rose a penny to $3.30 on Friday. That continues a streak of daily record-high prices that started on August 20. However, AAA says that gas prices this year will average out to be lower than they were last year.
In Delaware, regular unleaded is $3.42 a gallon, up a penny from last week. In South Jersey, regular also went up a penny over the last week to $3.31 a gallon. On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, gas went down by a penny over the past week to $3.34 a gallon.
