UPDATED 2:25 P.M. BY ANDREW KOCH: The pilot killed in Sunday’s plane crash in Dover has been identified as Dr. Cliffird Turen, an orthopaedic surgeon at Kent General Hospital.
Dr. Turen was the only person onboard the Piper Cherokee Arrow that crashed into a field off White Oak Road.
Bayhealth officials say Turen came to Bayhealth in 2011 after working at a hospital in Georgia.
The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating Sunday’s crash.

One person is dead following a plane crash in Dover Sunday night.
The control tower at Dover Air Force Base received an emergency call from a single engine piper plane just after 7 p.m.; firemen from various departments, Delaware State Police and DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Division conducted grid searches in the area of Bayside Drive along Route 9 and North Little Creek Road along Route 8.
Around 9:30 p.m., members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company located the wreckage of the aircraft.
The pilot was dead; he was the only person on-board.
The FAA will be at the scene of the crash today trying to determine what happened.
