UPDATE: Elderly Woman Struck by Car in Newark Dies

UPDATED STORY:  The pedestrian that was hit by a car in Newark Sunday afternoon has died from her injuries. Delaware State Police say 77-year-old Catherine Engle died this morning at Christiana Hospital.

Police say the incident happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday as 23-year-old Steven Perkins of Bear was eastbound in the right lane of Ogletown Stanton Road in his Ford Mustang. Police say Engle was attempting to cross the eastbound Route 4 lanes of traffic from the center median when she was struck by the Mustang in the right lane.

Perkins was not injured in the crash.

No charges have been filed.

ORIGINAL STORY:  Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred Sunday afternoon in Newark.

Police say the incident happened around 12:30 p.m. as 23-year-old Steven Perkins of Bear was eastbound in the right lane of Ogletown Stanton Road in his Ford Mustang.

Police say 77-year-old Catherine Engle of Newark was attempting to cross the eastbound Route 4 lanes of traffic from the center median when she was struck by the Mustang in the right lane. Engle was taken to Christiana Medical Center in critical condition.

Perkins was not injured in the crash.
