After Most Expensive Year Ever, Gas Prices Likely Lower in 2013

Jan 14, 2013 -- 4:16am

Finally, there was welcome news for motorists at the gas pumps last week.

For the first time since last August the nationwide price at the pump has dropped below the year-ago price.

On Friday, the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.31; that price is a penny more expensive than one week ago, but is it is also a penny less than last month and 7 cents less than one year ago.

There are a handful of states, primarily in the Northeast, still paying more than last year (including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia) due to the supply aftereffects of Hurricane Sandy.
