Five schools had been placed on CODE ORANGE lockdown as a precautionary measure while police hunted for the suspects.

ORIGINAL STORY:  Five Wicomico County schools in the Salisbury area are currently on CODE ORANGE lockdown due to an external criminal threat.

The lockdown is a precautionary measure and affects Charles H. Chipman Elementary School, Choices Alternative, Pemberton Elementary School, Salisbury Middle School and West Salisbury Elementary School.

District Spokeswoman Tracy Sahler says a suspected shooting in the area prompted the lockdown; she says the schools will resume normal school operations once they are advised by police that it is safe to do so.
