A director from the Smithsonian will be speaking later this week at Delaware State.
Dr. Johnetta Betsch Cole has been the director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington since 2009. The museum contains over 10,000 objects fom nearly every part of Africa. In 1987, Cole made history when she was named the first African-American woman president at Spelman College in Atlanta. While she was president of the college, Spelman was named the top liberal arts college in the South. Cole was also the president of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Cole’s presentation will be entitled “Lessons from my Journey.” The presentation will begin at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon in Parlor B at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Center.
